Job Description

Care Coordinator/Phlebotomist

The genes we are born with may contribute to our risk of developing certain types of cancer, including breast, ovarian, colorectal, and prostate cancer. The Clinical Genetics Service at MSK helps individuals to understand their risk for disease. We offer state of the art genetic counseling and testing and can assist individuals (affected or unaffected) and families who are at risk for inherited cancer predispositions to make informed medical decisions.

You will:

  • Greet/check-in and orient patients to the outpatient visit and to the environment, as well as complete the patient visit by scheduling and coordinating all appropriate tests, procedures, visits, treatments and consultations in accordance with the physicians' orders.

  • Responsible for collection of blood specimens via venipuncture and performance of associated clerical work to prepare specimens for analysis by the laboratory.

  • Performs preparatory steps required to collect samples. Assures proper labeling of specimen tubes after the blood collection procedure.

  • Serve as a liaison between the patient, family and clinical team during the office visit.

  • Responsible for billing at the time of service which includes processing of charge tickets and may also include receiving and processing of payments.

You have:

  • An associate’s or 2 years college (required); bachelor’s degree (preferred). A high school diploma/GED and 2 years relevant experience (frontline, patient-facing role in healthcare) will be accepted in lieu of the associate’s degree.

  • Certificate demonstrating completion of medical assistant or phlebotomy training program

  • A demonstrated commitment to healthcare through work, internship, or volunteer experience

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Ability to handle acutely ill patients in stressful situations with a positive demeanor

  • Ability to provide at least a 2-year commitment
